TikTok Launches ‘Pro’ App In Europe, Allowing Users To Support Charities Through Content Engagement

TikTok introduced TikTok Pro, a new application designed to convert user engagement into charitable donations. The platform, which launched initially in Germany, Portugal, and Spain, incorporates the company’s “Sunshine Programme” that enables users to support nonprofit organizations while consuming content.

The Sunshine Programme creates a mechanism where users accumulate “virtual Sunshine” through platform activities. Users generate this virtual currency by referring others to join, engaging with charity content, liking or reposting videos from nonprofits, following charity-related accounts, and performing charity-related searches.

TikTok partnered with several charitable organizations for the initiative, including Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, WaterAid, Aktion Deutschland Hilft, and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union. The company indicates it plans to expand these partnerships over time.

“We’re excited to be partnering with TikTok’s Sunshine Programme, turning digital engagement into real-world impact,” Jennie York, Executive Director Communications and Fundraising at WaterAid, said in a statement.

Safety and Availability

TikTok emphasizes that TikTok Pro maintains the same safety standards as the main application. Users must confirm they are over 18 years old to participate in the Sunshine Programme, and activities that generate virtual currency are limited.

Thilo Reichenbach, Chief Marketing Officer at Aktion Deutschland Hilft, notes the program “offers an accessible way for people to participate in global solidarity while enjoying content they value.”

TikTok Pro is currently available in app stores in Germany and Portugal, with the Sunshine Programme launching imminently in these markets. Spain will follow soon, according to the announcement.

The company states that the content displayed in TikTok Pro is identical to the main app, with the primary difference being the simplified interface and charitable features. TikTok representatives indicate the app targets non-TikTok users rather than attempting to migrate existing users to the new platform.
