MrBeast Raises $2.3M For Clean Water On Kick Stream As Part Of $40M #TeamWater Initiative
MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, raised $2.3 million during the first day of his #TeamWater fundraiser after appearing on Adin Ross’ Kick livestream on August 1. The campaign aims to collect $40 million by the end of August to fund clean water projects globally.
The fundraiser has drawn significant backing from content creators and entertainers, with MrBeast, Adin Ross, xQc, and Trainwrecks each committing $400,000 to the cause. Other notable contributors include Logan Paul, FaZe Banks, and Jynxzi at $100,000 each, while musical artists Young Thug and Kodak Black pledged $50,000 apiece.
The #TeamWater initiative represents what organizers call “the biggest YouTube collaboration” to date, led by MrBeast and science content creator Mark Rober. The monthlong crowdfunding campaign leverages their combined reach of approximately 2 billion subscribers to address global water access challenges.
Funds will primarily benefit WaterAid, an international nonprofit that builds community-tailored water infrastructure ranging from solar-powered wells to rainwater harvesting systems. Additional charity partners include GivePower and the Alok Foundation, implementing projects in rural Kenya and Brazil, respectively.
Building on Previous Initiatives
The campaign builds on MrBeast’s earlier “100 Wells in Africa” initiative launched in November 2023, which constructed over 100 wells across Cameroon, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, providing clean water access to more than 250,000 people.
According to WaterAid America CEO Kelly Parsons, the organization typically engages communities for up to a year to design appropriate solutions, sometimes including training for local water technicians. “It’s about people more than about plumbing,” Parsons noted.
The United Nations reports that more than 2 billion people lacked access to safely managed drinking water as of 2022. WaterAid statistics indicate that 703 million people worldwide don’t have clean water close to home, while almost 400,000 children under five die annually from diseases caused by unsafe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
The #TeamWater initiative targets providing sustainable water access for 2 million people globally. Projects will span multiple countries including Colombia, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Malawi, and Kenya. U.S.-based initiatives include an atmospheric water generator for an assisted living facility in Jackson, Mississippi, and infrastructure improvements in Rhodell, West Virginia.
The multi-platform fundraiser follows previous campaigns #TeamTrees (2019) and #TeamSeas (2021), which reportedly raised over $50 million collectively. Various content creators are participating by producing water-themed content authentic to their individual brands.
Matt Fitzgerald, a digital campaign strategist organizing the efforts, described the approach as reaching “people’s hearts before you try to convince them with their minds,” aiming to create long-term advocacy around water access issues.
