Threads Adds AI Tool Allowing Users To Customize Feeds Through Public Posts

Meta has rolled out “Dear Algo” on Threads, an AI-powered feature that allows users to customize their feed by selecting public posts.

Users can type “Dear Algo” followed by content preferences to adjust what appears in their feed for three days. They can also request more or less content on specific topics by posting requests such as “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.”

The feature allows users to repost other users’ Dear Algo requests to apply those content preferences to their own feeds. Meta positions the tool as enabling control over what users see based on changing interests, citing examples such as live sports events or television show spoilers.

“Dear Algo” launches in the United States, New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, with additional markets planned.

Threads launched in July 2023 and reached 200 million users by mid-2024. The platform grew to 320 million monthly active users by January 2025 and currently serves approximately 400 million monthly active users.

Meta began rolling out advertisements to all Threads users globally in January, following year-long testing in select markets. The company states ad delivery will remain low initially as the feature scales across markets.
