Spotify’s Prompted Playlist Feature Now Surfaces Podcasts Alongside Music
Spotify is expanding its Prompted Playlist feature to include podcasts, extending a tool previously limited to music. The update rolled out on April 7 to Premium users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.

Prompted Playlist, which launched earlier in 2026 in beta, generates curated playlists by drawing on a user’s listening history and real-time signals on the platform, including trends and charts. The podcast addition allows users to build lineups based on mood, topic, or interest using natural language prompts.

“Podcast fans are always looking for their next great listen,” Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcast Editorial, said in an announcement. “Prompted Playlist makes discovery feel effortless and personal. For creators, it unlocks powerful new opportunities for discovery, bringing both back catalog and new episodes to audiences who are actively signaling what they want to hear.”

Users can edit prompts at any time and set playlists to refresh daily or weekly. Each episode in a generated playlist includes a short note explaining why it was included. Spotify reports that more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week on the platform.
The launch builds on Spotify’s broader AI-driven product strategy. In February, Co-President and Chief Product & Technology Officer Gustav Söderström described the company’s development of a dataset mapping natural language prompts to personalized listening outcomes, drawing on behavioral data across hundreds of millions of users. At the time, Prompted Playlist was cited alongside Spotify’s Interactive DJ as evidence of the company’s AI-native approach to content discovery.
Spotify reported that Interactive DJ had reached approximately 90 million subscribers and had driven more than 4 billion hours of time spent on Spotify as of the company’s Q4 2025 earnings report.
Prompted Playlist remains in beta, and Spotify notes that the experience may continue to develop. Usage limits are currently in place and subject to change as the company gathers listener feedback. Playlists curated by Spotify’s in-house culture team also appear on users’ Home screens as a starting point for exploration.
