beehiiv Launches Podcast Advertising Tools With No Minimum Download Requirement

beehiiv has launched a suite of podcast advertising tools that lets creators and publishers of any size earn from their shows, with no minimum download count required to participate.

The suite combines dynamic ad insertion, programmatic advertising, and creator-sold sponsorship management on the platform where creators already publish podcasts, newsletters, and websites. Dynamic ad insertion lets creators place and replace ads in new and previously published episodes without re-recording or republishing them. beehiiv plays a creator’s direct-sold sponsor ads first, then programmatic ads when available, followed by any house promos.

According to beehiiv’s blog post, creators can run their own sponsorship campaigns through a campaigns manager, which accepts ads of up to 90 seconds and lets creators set flight dates and an optional impression goal. “Pro” and “Enterprise” plans add targeting by device and location, frequency caps, and third-party tracking. Programmatic ads fill open inventory through a marketplace, and creators retain most of the gross programmatic revenue. A separate reporting dashboard shows impressions, delivery, revenue, and eCPM for programmatic campaigns.

beehiiv said its podcast measurement is certified compliant with the IAB Tech Lab Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines, so advertisers can buy against the download and impression metrics they already use. The company said it filters bot, crawler, and data center traffic, pre-loads that never reach a minute of listening, and duplicate requests.

“Podcast advertising has traditionally been out of reach for smaller creators, and we’re changing that,” said Tyler Denk, co-founder and CEO of beehiiv, in a press release. He added that the company will introduce video hosting and distribution for podcasts and communities before the end of the year, with video monetization following in 2027.

Building on the Ad Network

The launch extends beehiiv’s existing advertising business. The beehiiv Ad Network now pays publishers more than $1 million per month, and more than 13,000 publications have monetized through it, according to the press release. The company charges no platform commission on paid subscriptions.

The tools address a gap the company’s podcast chief identified earlier this year. beehiiv hired Ainsley Rossitto, a former Paramount and NPR executive, as Head of Podcasts in May, about a month after it launched native podcast hosting. She told Net Influencer then that a large tier of independent creators “don’t have access to the ad tech, sponsorship pipelines, or first-party data the big shows and networks have.” beehiiv said Rossitto led the build of the new ad tools.

At its Summer Release Event in July, beehiiv said dynamic ad insertion was coming soon and that it had introduced programmatic ads for newsletters. It also said at the time that extending programmatic and dynamic ad tools into podcasts would let it sell sponsors a cross-channel audience rather than pricing against downloads alone. Patreon and Substack both support podcasts and take a percentage of creators’ revenue.

beehiiv supports more than 170,000 publications reaching more than 450 million unique readers, the company said.
