Popfly Launches Creator-Led Sponsorship Model, Will Fund One Adventure Trip This Summer

Popfly, a creator platform focused on outdoor and adventure content, announced it will fully fund one creator’s trip this summer as part of a new sponsorship initiative that inverts the traditional Influencer Marketing model.

Rather than waiting for brands to post campaign briefs, Popfly’s “Adventures” feature allows creators to pitch their own trips and request gear, funding, or both directly through the platform. Hundreds of adventures are already listed, ranging from kayaking the Oregon coast to thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, according to the announcement. Popfly will select the most compelling adventure posted and fund it outright, with no formal application process.

The company says it intends to spend the remainder of the summer helping additional creators secure sponsorships through the platform.

“The Creator Economy is worth billions, and most of it goes to polished ads that nobody believes,” said Taylor Hoekstra, Founder and CEO of Popfly. “The most compelling brand content always comes from creators who are out there living real adventures. We’re stoked to be building the place where that happens.”

Industry Kickoff

The initiative launches at the Basecamp Outdoor x Popfly Kick-off Party on May 28 during Outside Days in Denver, where outdoor brands and creators can connect directly.

Popfly describes “Adventures” as the only tool in the Creator Economy built specifically for proactive, trip-based sponsorship. On conventional influencer platforms, brands post briefs and creators apply. Popfly’s model positions creators as the originating party, pitching trips, and seeking out brands that want to participate.

The platform covers discovery, payments, and performance tracking for brand-creator collaborations.
