Meta has confirmed its annual Connect conference will take place September 23 and 24 at the company’s Menlo Park, California campus, with a livestream available for remote attendees.
In a blog post published May 12, Meta said attendees can expect “the latest in VR, wearables, metaverse, and AI,” along with an evening keynote and developer sessions. The company framed the event as an opportunity to preview “the next computing platform.”
Meta cited recent milestones heading into the conference. “People wear our AI glasses all over the world, and they’re one of the fastest-growing consumer electronics categories in history,” the company wrote. Meta also referenced the launch of Muse Spark, describing it as “the first step toward personal superintelligence and the start of a new series of models purpose-built for our products.”
Zuckerberg Teases Hardware
Alongside the date announcement, CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a photo on Facebook appearing to tease a new pair of smart glasses, with the design obscured by blue markings. Meta’s current smart glasses lineup includes an audio-only model and a pair equipped with a monocular display. Zuckerberg’s post also referenced “demos, special guests, AI updates, and better wifi,” with a fifth item left intentionally blurred.
Meta has not disclosed specific product announcements for the event. According to Road to VR, rumors have circulated around a potential Meta smartwatch and a next-generation Quest headset. Meta has confirmed a new Quest device is in development, though the company has not provided a timeline. The last Quest hardware release, the Quest 3S, launched more than a year and a half ago.
The XR industry has faced layoffs and project cancellations at several Meta internal studios over the past year. Meta has stated it remains committed to XR investment, characterizing the changes as course corrections on underperforming initiatives.
Meta said additional details will be shared in the months ahead.
