Instagram Adds Feature Letting Users Add Tagged Posts to Their Profile Grid
Instagram is rolling out a feature that lets users add posts they are tagged in directly to their main profile grid.
According to a TechCrunch report, the feature addresses a common scenario: a user attends an event with friends, and another attendee posts the best group photo first, tagging others in it. Previously, someone who wanted that photo on their own profile would need to post it separately. Instagram’s new tool lets users add the tagged post itself to their grid instead.
Users can add a tagged post to their profile from the DM notification they receive when tagged, from the post directly, or through their Tagged tab. The addition can be reversed at any time. Adding a tagged post to a profile does not delete or duplicate the original post, and removing it from a profile does not remove it from the Tagged tab.
Instagram said the feature has applications for creator collaborations, giving creators a way to display posts they were tagged in without republishing the content or using the platform’s “Invite collaborators” option. The company also pointed to brand campaigns involving multiple tagged creators as a potential use case, allowing each creator to feature the same piece of content on their own profile.
The update follows other recent changes Instagram has made to profile and editing tools. In June, the platform introduced a “Reorder your grid” feature that lets users rearrange content on their profile. Instagram has also rolled out “First Draft,” an editing tool that trims selected video clips and removes pauses to assemble an initial cut, and “Replace Audio,” which allows users to swap the music on an existing post after it has been published.
