AiMCO Launches Creator Checklist for Talent Agency Negotiations

The Australian Influencer Marketing Council (AiMCO) has released a new Talent Agency Checklist for creators seeking professional representation. The industry information sheet, developed by AiMCO’s Creator Advisory Council and Talent Managers Working Group, targets Australian creators navigating talent agency negotiations.

The checklist provides guidance on key considerations before signing agreements, including clarifying career goals and brand alignment preferences. It prompts creators to inquire about day-to-day management contacts, onboarding processes, and existing client rosters.

Creators are encouraged to request examples of recent campaigns and inquire about well-being support and professional development opportunities. The resource addresses contract specifics, with particular emphasis on commission structures, invoicing procedures, exclusivity terms, and termination clauses.

The checklist identifies potential “red flags” during negotiations, including pressure tactics, unclear commission structures, ambiguous payment processes, and refusal to provide complete contract documentation.

“A talent agency checklist was one of the first items on our to-do list as a committee, as it is well overdue for the nation’s growing creator scene,” said Jordan Barclay, AiMCO Creator Advisory Council member and CEO of Spawnpoint Media.

Industry Growth Drives Need

The resource responds to the development of content creation from hobby to profession. “Many are at the stage where they’re considering signing with a talent agency to help manage their deals, but they don’t know what to ask when they go into negotiations,” Barclay explained.

The checklist joins AiMCO’s growing collection of industry resources, which includes a tax guide for influencers and salary benchmarking guidelines. The checklist is available exclusively to AiMCO members, with the organization recently welcoming creators Chloe Morello, Steph Cooks, Matt Fahd, and Vanessa Li.
