Select Management Group Launches Sports Division Targeting Athletes With Brand-Building Potential
Los Angeles-based talent agency Select Management Group has formally launched Select Sports, a new division focused on representing athletes in individual sports, per Sports Business Journal.
Amy Neben, the agency’s Partner and Head of Ventures and Sports, leads the division alongside talent managers Alexia Maitland, Fred Johnson and Charley Button.
The division concentrates on individual sports, including gymnastics, skateboarding and track and field, with plans to expand into team sports starting with high school and college levels before moving to professional leagues.
Current Roster and Brand Partnerships
Select Sports launches with representation of athletes including two-time Olympic medalist Jordan Chiles, 19-time Paralympic gold medalist Oksana Masters and 17-year-old world champion skateboarder and two-time Olympic medalist Sky Brown.
The roster also includes Paralympian Nick Mayhugh, gymnasts Simone Rose, Zoey Molomo and Asher Hong, social media influencer and former college golfer Haley Bookholdt, Paralympic sprinter Brittni Mason and taekwondo practitioner CJ Nickolas.
The agency has secured brand deals for its clients with Visa, Nike, Samsung, Delta, Toyota, P&G, Lancôme, TAG Heuer and Red Bull.
Market Positioning
Neben outlined the division’s strategy of targeting elite athletes with significant brand-building potential rather than pursuing volume-based representation.
“What you have never been able to do with athletes, until social media, is build a brand around these athletes, unless they’re one of a kind. The problem is that most of the agencies in representation just aren’t interested in that. They’re interested in signing every single player under the same agent, monetizing while they’re competitive,” Neben said in a statement.
She added that the agency maintains relationships with mainstream agencies like CAA, where it shares clients.
“We’re not going to be signing an athlete who is doing TikToks and has 15,000 followers. If there’s someone who’s really ambitious about social media and can build a brand, we’re interested. We’re entering this for the top athletes and people who can build a real brand,” Neben said.
Select Sports joins other agencies launching sports divisions in 2025, including The Only Agency, which established its sports division in April.
