Media Company Minivela Acquires Major Stake in Microdrama Studio Red Minds Films
Minivela, a bilingual U.S. Hispanic and Latin American microdrama media company, has acquired a major ownership stake in Red Minds Films, a Spanish-language microdrama producer based in Mexico and Ecuador. The deal brings Red Minds Films’ 38 million social media followers, library of roughly 1,800 microdramas and production infrastructure under Minivela’s distribution and advertising operation.
According to a press release, Red Minds Films’ social channels generate approximately 185 million monthly video views across Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Its largest property, “Juancho Virales,” has approximately 24 million followers on Facebook alone. About 10% of the network’s followers, or 3.8 million, are based in the U.S.
“Brands need scale, reach, and viral engagement for microdramas to engage Latino audiences – particularly Gen Z and Millennials – and that’s what we can deliver now better than ever and far more than anyone else by wide margins,” said Manny Ruiz, CEO of Minivela.
Founded in 2019 by media entrepreneurs Juan Altamirano and Jordan Soria, Red Minds Films began producing vertical dramas years before the format’s current boom in the U.S. market, where apps like ReelShort and DramaBox have built audiences willing to pay per episode for serialized content produced for mobile viewing. The acquisition gives Minivela an established production engine in that format rather than building one from scratch, and folds a Spanish-language audience into a company that has focused on U.S. Hispanic and Latin American distribution, advertising technology and branded entertainment, including the P&G- and Albertsons Media Collective-backed micro-sitcom Rico’s Tacos.
“What Juan and Jordan have built is extraordinary and demonstrates that authentic storytelling resonates when you know how to engage young audiences, create great grassroots content, and develop beloved characters,” said Carlos Ponce, Minivela co-founder and senior partner. “They’ve proven that when it comes to vertical dramas, home-grown talent and content creators are frequently more popular and engaging than content featuring traditional TV stars.”
The agreement includes co-owned intellectual property, content licensing, exclusive worldwide resale rights to the Red Minds Films library, and plans for English- and Portuguese-language adaptations. It also extends existing work the two companies do together producing content for Pure Flix Familia, the Spanish-language faith-and-family streaming service from Great American Pure Flix, into additional YouTube shows, films, reality programming and bilingual productions.
“U.S. Latino audiences have watched, shared, and loved our content for years, and we are excited to serve them more directly through Minivela,” said Juan Altamirano, co-founder of Red Minds Films. “Together, we can take the characters and storytelling that built our community into YouTube shows, films, original series, and brand partnerships across new languages, platforms, and markets.”
The investment adds South America to Minivela’s production footprint alongside Mexico City, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York, with Miami serving as the company’s hub for U.S. Hispanic and Latin American expansion.
