Fox’s Red Seat Ventures Adds AI Ad-Targeting Tool to Speakeasy Podcast Platform
Red Seat Ventures, the Fox Corporation creator media company, has integrated Barometer, an AI-powered brand suitability and contextual targeting engine, into Speakeasy, its podcast hosting, distribution and monetization platform. The integration lets advertisers target ad placement at the individual episode level rather than blocking entire shows or categories based on broad keyword filters.
Barometer’s system analyzes each episode for tone, sentiment and context before ads are delivered, a process the companies say opens up inventory in specialized and high-engagement genres that had previously been screened out by blunter brand-safety tools. The classification runs natively within Speakeasy’s workflow, allowing episodes to be scored before release and monetized as soon as they publish.
“Premium podcast audiences are deeply engaged across every genre, but broad keyword blocking can unnecessarily limit monetization,” said Jeremy Price, SVP of Sales at Red Seat Ventures, in an announcement. “By integrating Barometer into Speakeasy, we can evaluate content with greater nuance, giving advertisers the confidence to scale across our portfolio while unlocking more value for creators.”
Dr. Tamara Zubatiy Nelson, CEO and co-founder of Barometer, said episode-level evaluation addresses a gap in how podcast advertising has typically been sold. “The biggest misconception in podcast advertising isn’t reach – it’s a lack of episode-level context,” she said. “Evaluating content dynamically at the episode level unlocks massive value for Red Seat Ventures, providing brand partners with access to highly engaged audiences safely and at scale.”
The tool uses the IAB Content Taxonomy alongside Barometer’s own brand suitability framework and is built to distinguish storytelling, journalism and nuanced discussion from genuine brand risk, reducing false-positive blocks. It is now live for both direct insertion orders and programmatic buys across Speakeasy.
Red Seat Ventures represents more than 40 creators across true crime, comedy, news, sports and entertainment, reaching tens of millions of monthly consumers. The company launched Speakeasy in April as a hosting, distribution and monetization platform built for creators and enterprises whose needs differ from traditional podcasters, pairing it with Supercast, the subscription platform Red Seat Ventures had recently acquired, for subscription-based revenue. CEO Chris Balfe described that launch as a response to fragmentation in creator media, saying at the time that creators “require an AI-enabled platform that meets the growing needs and opportunities of distributing and monetizing across audio, video, and streaming platforms.”
The Barometer integration is the latest addition to Speakeasy since that launch, following recent tie-ins with Supercast and “Kill Tony+,” the addition of Charlie Sheen’s “Mostly Sheenius” podcast, and support for Apple HLS.
