Acast, Barometer Launch Pre-Bid Episode-Level Targeting For Podcast Advertising

Podcast company Acast and AI-powered podcast advertising platform Barometer have launched an integration enabling pre-bid targeting at the episode level across Acast’s podcast inventory. The technology allows advertisers to set brand suitability parameters before programmatic bids execute, according to the announcement.

The system channels podcast episodes through Barometer’s AI-driven analysis tools upon upload. Each episode receives scores against multiple metrics, including IAB categories and Barometer’s proprietary long-form audio definitions. Advertisers can establish risk and contextual parameters directly within the programmatic bidding process.

The integration extends to Acast’s full back catalog in addition to newly published episodes. Initial campaigns using the system reported 100% alignment with advertiser brand standard profiles at the episodic level, according to the companies.

The integration builds on an existing partnership between the companies. Acast and Barometer previously collaborated on brand-suitable media buying through pre-planning methods. The new system adds pre-vetting of suitability on an episodic basis for programmatic activation, including episodes before release.

“Barometer’s episode-level targeting and back-catalog processing capabilities are truly game-changing,” said Lauren Russo, EVP, Managing Partner, Innovation and Performance Audio at Horizon Media. “They empower agencies and brands to curate content from publishers at scale, significantly extending their reach.”

Technical Implementation

The technology processes podcast content through AI transcription and natural language processing to evaluate episodes against safety standards. Brands set custom risk acceptance levels for advertising placements within the programmatic workflow.

“Advertisers want authenticity without risk,” said Valerie Reimer, VP Adtech & Product Partnerships at Acast. “With Barometer’s episodic integration live across Acast, brands can align their standards at the episode level before a campaign even runs – pre-bid, third-party verified, and measurable.”

Tamara Nelson, co-founder and CEO of Barometer, stated the integration “empower[s] advertisers all around the world” and has “already delivered for precision in both direct and programmatic campaigns.”
