Fox Entertainment Acquires Meet Cute Podcast Company As Content Incubator
Fox Entertainment has acquired Meet Cute, a rom-com podcast company founded in 2019, continuing its strategy of investing in creator-driven content platforms. The New York-based podcast company will serve as a “rapid-development content incubator” for Fox, producing both scripted and soon-to-launch unscripted series, per Variety.
“Innovation in digital storytelling is shaping the future of entertainment, and with Meet Cute we’re building a space where creators can move fast, take risks, and shape what’s next,” said Hannah Pillemer, Head of Scripted at Fox Entertainment Studios, who will oversee Meet Cute operations.
Meet Cute founder and CEO Naomi Shah has joined Fox Entertainment as Senior VP, Operations and Strategy, focusing on “AI innovation, entertainment technology and IP (Intellectual Property) expansion.”
The Meet Cute acquisition aligns with Fox Entertainment’s investments earlier this year. In October, Fox acquired an equity stake in Ukrainian vertical video company Holywater, committing to produce more than 200 vertical video titles for Holywater’s My Drama platform within two years.
In June, Fox Advertising invested in The Lighthouse, a physical campus for content creators under the Whalar Group, designed to develop creator-led franchises across Fox’s content offerings.
Multi-Platform Content Development
Fox Entertainment describes its strategy as a “three-pronged ecosystem where IP can originate from any format (books, audio, or digital) and evolve seamlessly across media.” The approach aims to shorten traditional development cycles while using data to inform decisions about scaling content into series, films, or multiplatform franchises.
Meet Cute has released more than 200 hours of original “bite-sized” scripted audio programming, reaching over 2.5 million listeners globally. The company has published 51 shows to date, including “Burn, Baby,” “Arlo’s Type,” and “Einstein and Elena.”
“From day one, Meet Cute’s mission was to build stories at the speed of culture,” said Shah. “Joining Fox Entertainment allows us to scale that vision – giving creators a faster path from idea to audience, integrating real-time audience feedback, and bringing new voices and formats to life across Fox’s global platforms.”
Financial terms of the Meet Cute acquisition were not disclosed. The podcast company had previously raised $9.25 million from investors including Union Square Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, Shari Redstone’s Advancit Capital, and LocalGlobe.
