Comedy YouTuber Kevin Langue Signs With Netflix
Kevin Langue, the YouTube comedy creator known for guessing-game and social-experiment formats, is bringing his two channels to Netflix starting September 5, per Variety. Older episodes from “The Kevin Langue Show” and “Kevin Langue 2” will land on the platform that day, with new episodes releasing day-and-date alongside YouTube going forward, available to subscribers worldwide.
Langue has more than 13.5 million followers across platforms, including 5.4 million subscribers on his main YouTube channel. “The Kevin Langue Show” puts Langue and a rotating cast of comedian friends through guessing-game and social-experiment premises built around identifying a “secret liar” among contestants. “Kevin Langue 2” offers what Netflix describes as a more intimate, personality-driven look at Langue through unscripted content. The flagship show is also distributed as an audio podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
“The fans have been the driving force behind this opportunity, and to see what we’ve built now also on Netflix is incredibly special,” Langue said in a statement. “I’m just so excited to continue bringing the energy of our shows to even more people around the world!”
Langue is repped by 3 Arts Entertainment and WME. He and Zane Helberg executive produce “The Kevin Langue Show,” with Katherine Tompkins as associate producer. This summer, Langue ran an 18-city live tour that sold more than 30,000 tickets, opening in Los Angeles as part of “Netflix is a Joke Fest,” with a different guessing game built for each market.
The deal extends a run of YouTube-to-Netflix signings that has picked up pace over the past several months. In mid-July, Netflix signed celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni to bring his back catalog and two channels to the platform, a day after announcing Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal’s Good Mythical Morning and two related Mythical Entertainment shows. Netflix also brought on Alan Chikin Chow’s “Alan’s Universe” franchise in July, following earlier deals with Mark Rober, the Stokes Twins, Ms. Rachel and The Sidemen. Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos has described YouTube as a “farm league” for creators.
That expansion has drawn a response from YouTube itself. Bloomberg reported that YouTube is now offering to fund creators’ video projects in exchange for exclusive windows, an effort to keep talent from moving work to Netflix. Variety noted YouTube has been unhappy with Netflix’s push to sign YouTube-native creators.
