Aviation Content Creator Faces Airline Dispute Over First Class Review
Aviation content creator “Nonstop Dan” reports being confronted by Kuwait Airways staff during and after a first-class flight from Bangkok to Kuwait due to filming a review onboard. The creator, who operates one of the largest aviation channels on YouTube with nearly 1 million subscribers, details the incident in a two-part video series uploaded on YouTube.
The Flight Experience and Initial Recording
According to Dan, he boarded a Kuwait Airways Boeing 777 first-class cabin in Bangkok, paying approximately $1,480 for the ticket, which he describes as “one of the cheapest long-haul first-class tickets in the world.” The creator claims that he initially received permission to record from a crew member, provided that he only filmed himself and not other passengers or crew members.
“Of course, if you only record yourself, that’s fine,” Dan quotes the purser as saying during boarding.
Service Experience and Mid-Flight Confrontation
The first part of Dan’s review covers standard flight review elements: seat features, meal service, entertainment options, and bedding. Approximately 90 minutes before landing, Dan reports that the purser approached him, stating he needed prior permission to record on Kuwait Airways flights.
“You need to contact the Kuwait Airways marketing department or media team. You need to ask for permission to record on a Kuwait Airways flight,” the purser allegedly told him.
Escalation and Reported Threats
The situation reportedly intensified when Dan declined to sign a document promising not to publish footage from the flight. According to Dan’s account, the purser stated: “The captain is very upset. So if you do not sign, I cannot guarantee your safety when we land.”
Dan claims he used the aircraft’s in-flight messaging service to contact a friend working in Kuwaiti aviation, who advised him that no such recording prohibition existed and recommended he not sign anything.
Post-Landing Confrontation
Upon landing in Kuwait, Dan reports being detained at the gate, where the captain allegedly stated that recording on planes was “completely illegal and forbidden” in Kuwait. Ground staff reportedly demanded that he delete all footage and threatened legal action if the review were to be published. Police officers ultimately allowed him to proceed after examining his footage.
“The police finally return, and they go, ‘It’s fine. You can go,'” Dan recounts in his second video.
Airline Response and Legal Concerns
Dan states in his first video that Kuwait Airways “threatened me if I were to publish this review” and mentions being “informed that the airline may pursue legal action if I share this review.” As of the publication of his second video on July 1, 2025, Dan reports no communication from Kuwait Airways regarding the incident.
The incident raises questions about content creation policies on international carriers. Kuwait Airways’ conditions of carriage, according to Dan, do not explicitly prohibit passengers from recording themselves or their seating areas.
Dan, who has reviewed over 160 airlines during his career, states this level of confrontation is unusual, having “flown every other major Middle Eastern carrier in every cabin and made videos on almost all of them without any issues” with only one previous minor incident in 2018.
Public Reception
The two videos have garnered a combined 1,000,000 views within days of posting. A discussion thread on Reddit shows mixed reactions, with some users expressing concern about airline overreach while others question the appropriateness of filming on flights without explicit permission.
One Reddit user who identifies as having flown Kuwait Airways in 2024 comments: “I flew Kuwait Airways last year and had no problems photographing throughout the flight, not sure if they have any official policy on recording.”
