X Launches Live Studio, Backs Livestreaming Push With $1M Creator Fund
X has introduced “Live Studio,” a new livestreaming command center for creators, and will set aside $1 million to reward creators who go live during the upcoming cycle, according to posts from X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier.
Bier said X is “rewarding creators who livestream by allocating $1 million” for the coming cycle, but did not detail how the payouts will be structured, saying more information would follow. He shared a demo of Live Studio, which lives inside Creator Studio on X.
Inside Live Studio
The tool lets creators set up a stream with a title and thumbnail, then schedule it for a specific date and time. Creators can also restrict who is able to watch, limiting a stream to verified accounts, the accounts they follow, or their subscribers, or opening it to everyone on the platform. Once live, the command center surfaces viewer comments alongside performance data, including concurrent viewer counts, viewer countries, and the devices used to watch.
Access to livestreaming on X remains tied to X Premium, the platform’s entry-level subscription tier.
As reported by Engadget, live video has technically existed on X for years without becoming a feature closely associated with the platform. Its highest-profile moments have also been its roughest: in 2023, then-candidate Ron DeSantis attempted to announce his presidential campaign on X’s live audio product Spaces, only for server issues to derail the launch. A 2024 Spaces interview between Elon Musk and Donald Trump was similarly disrupted by a crash.
Live Studio arrives four months after X overhauled its subscription tools with Creator Subscriptions 2.0, which introduced Exclusive Threads, letting creators paywall part of a thread while leaving a teaser visible to all users, along with a streamlined two-step subscription setup, a consolidated earnings dashboard, and a “Paid Partnership” label for sponsored posts. At the time, X said the update was meant to help creators build “sustainable incomes and deeper connections with their audiences.”
The livestreaming push extends that same monetization focus into real-time video, giving creators a second paid format alongside subscriptions and adding direct cash incentives on top of it.
