TikTok Unveils AI Shopping Agents, Ad Network Expansion at Advertising Week
At Advertising Week New York 2026, TikTok introduced a set of AI-powered advertising tools spanning in-app checkout, lead generation, search ads, and cross-app campaign reach, as the platform looks to convert its growing audience into what it calls measurable business outcomes for brands.
The announcements center on agentic commerce tools, starting with “Buy Direct,” an in-app checkout that lets users complete purchases from a brand without leaving the For You feed, and “Shopping Assistant,” a conversational AI agent built into several TikTok touchpoints that guides users through product details, shipping, sizing, and availability in a single conversation. TikTok also introduced “Agentic Leads,” an AI agent for lead generation available through TikTok Direct Message and on advertiser-owned websites, which captures and qualifies high-intent prospects through AI-guided conversations.
“AI is transforming how advertiser content is created and scaled,” said David Kaufman, TikTok’s Global Head of Monetization Product Partnerships. “With our suite of solutions, we are bringing together AI, automation, and creativity to help advertisers improve performance while reducing effort.”
TikTok is also extending campaign reach beyond its own app. The TikTok Ad Network, rolling out to U.S. advertisers, lets brands run campaigns across a network of nearly 400,000 apps worldwide, integrated into TikTok Ads Manager with built-in brand safety and placement controls. On the development side, TikTok for Business MCP, built on the open “Model Context Protocol,” has seen a more than 200% increase in advertisers using it for campaign activation since launch, according to the company, and is now available as a connector on Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry.

On the measurement and automation side, TikTok introduced a “Search Ads Campaign” product powered by its Smart+ automation suite, which handles keyword and creative selection for search ads, and Smart+ Creative Selection, which consolidates advertiser assets, AI-generated creative from TikTok’s Symphony tool, and creator content into a single approval workflow. The company is also expanding GMV Max, its automated TikTok Shop ad solution, to factor in costs like affiliate commissions, coupons and referral fees when optimizing spend, which TikTok says will help advertisers target a truer return on investment.
A Haus study published earlier this year found that TikTok’s incremental impact on purchases often builds slowly and, in some cases, continues to accumulate after a campaign ends, a lag that standard attribution windows can miss. That dynamic bears on tools like GMV Max’s push toward “true ROI,” since the timing gap Haus identified is the kind of effect such attribution refinements would need to account for.
TikTok tied the push to figures from two recent third-party reports: its own commissioned ‘Economic Impact Report’ found TikTok activity helped generate $81 billion in U.S. GDP and that 54 million Americans had purchased a product after watching a TikTok video, while Kantar’s “Media Reactions 2026” ranked TikTok as the platform where marketers most plan to increase spend in 2027, with 84% of marketers currently advertising on the platform.
The rollout follows TikTok’s Creators Summit in Los Angeles, where the company detailed TikTok One updates including AI creator search tools, faster creator payments, and a label for vetted creators, suggesting a broader push to layer AI across both sides of its advertising marketplace, brand tools and creator discovery alike, in the same stretch of weeks.
