TikTok Adds Post-Publish Keyword Management Tool for Creator Videos

TikTok has quietly launched a feature that allows creators to add or block keywords on videos after they are published, giving users more direct input into how the platform’s algorithm distributes their content.

The tool, called “Manage Keywords,” lets creators suggest additional keywords or block existing ones that TikTok has automatically assigned to their uploads, according to reporting by Social Media Today and Marketing4eCommerce

“This post displays keywords automatically added by TikTok based on popular searches. You can manage them at any time,” the platform states within the feature.

Creators can access the tool by tapping the three dots in the lower-right corner of a published video and navigating to the “Manage Keywords” option. Blocking a keyword also blocks related terms; blocking “dance,” for example, would also block “dancing,” according to content creator Carolina Muñiz of Marketing4eCommerce. TikTok retains oversight of creator-suggested keywords to prevent irrelevant terms from being added, per Social Media Today.

TikTok Search Visibility

Recent research shows substantial gaps in brand visibility across TikTok search. A May report from Influencer Marketing platform Refluenced found that four in ten of the 1,000+ consumer brands it tracked scored zero visibility across every TikTok search keyword the firm monitors.

The report identified keyword strategy, rather than content volume, as the primary driver of brand search performance on the platform. A brand identified in the report as Kapten & Son recorded a visibility score increase of 136% after briefing creators to include specific keywords within the first eight to ten seconds of each video.

Content volume on TikTok grew nearly 80% in early 2026 compared to the same period a year earlier, while average views per post fell 31%, according to an analysis of 2.31 million posts by social media analytics firm Metricool. Search accounted for 4% of TikTok views during the study period.

Muñiz noted that the keyword management feature had not been live long and that its impact on metrics has yet to be determined.
