Roblox Expands Creator Infrastructure From Game Development to Payments, Distribution, and AI

Roblox is expanding the infrastructure around its Creator Economy, adding new ways for developers to get paid, distribute games, reach players, and build experiences with AI.

At this week’s annual Roblox Developers Conference, the company announced daily creator payouts through a new financial account, standalone game apps, browser-based play without installation, and an expanded suite of AI creation tools. The moves extend Roblox’s role beyond a platform where creators publish games into more of the business that surrounds those games, from development and distribution to financial management.

Creators globally earned more than $1.5 billion on Roblox in 2025, up from $923 million in 2024. The company reported paying approximately $1.7 billion in the 12 months through June 2026. Roblox also announced plans to begin collecting a percentage of brand deal revenue in January 2027, bringing another creator income stream into its monetization infrastructure.

The latest announcements broaden that infrastructure further, giving creators more tools to build games, reach players, manage earnings, and potentially operate their businesses within the Roblox ecosystem.

Creator Payments and Business Infrastructure

The financial centerpiece of the conference is Roblox Wallet, a Creator Hub-integrated account that will issue earnings every business day in real currency as holds clear. Wallet begins rolling out in December 2026 to eligible U.S.-based independent creators 18 and older. Roblox plans to expand the program over the following year to groups, LLCs, creators under 18, and additional countries. Payment services will be provided through Airwallex US, LLC, a licensed money transmitter.

“Our vision is bigger than just faster payments,” said Enrico D’Angelo, Roblox’s Chief Business Officer. “Wallet is the foundation to help creators grow from small businesses run by individuals into thriving big companies.”

The timing tracks a documented shift in creator behavior. Roblox’s most recent economic impact study, published this week, found that the average share of creator earnings left on the platform fell from 58% to 28% in 2025. Nordicity, the economic analysis firm that conducted the study, identified that shift as the primary driver of a 69% increase in the GDP impact of creator activity. Earnings withdrawn and spent in the broader economy generate significantly larger downstream effects than earnings that remain on the platform. Daily settlement in real currency removes some of the friction that has historically delayed that withdrawal.

Roblox also announced Roblox Card, a debit card connected to the Wallet that will let creators spend their balance anywhere the major card network is accepted without first transferring the money to a bank account. Roblox Card is planned for 2027.

Alongside Wallet, Roblox disclosed the largest DevEx rate increase in its history, raising the exchange rate for creators 18 and older by 42%. The company reports that roughly one-third of its daily U.S. players are in that age group and that those players monetize at more than 50% above the under-18 cohort. Roblox cited an industry figure showing that 80% of gaming spend is driven by adults. More than 2,000 games have seen revenue lifts of 10% or better from the rate increase alone, according to Roblox.

Roblox Plus, the subscription tier launched in April, has reached millions of active subscribers, the company reported. Plus subscribers spend up to seven times more Robux in games than non-subscribers, depending on the experience. Creator incentives tied to the subscription, including referral bounties for converting non-subscribers and private server compensation, generated more than 300 million Robux in creator earnings during the program’s first four months.

Expanding How Creators Reach Players

Roblox is also changing how players can access games. The company’s “Roblox Everywhere” initiative will allow creators to publish games as standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox providing the underlying technology.

The games will be identical whether accessed through a standalone version or the Roblox app, with users able to play across devices and platforms together.

The distribution expansion addresses another part of the creator business. Roblox reported in its Q4 2025 shareholder letter that 27% of age-verified users are over 18. The company described that cohort as growing faster and monetizing more effectively than under-18 users, while saying Roblox currently reaches fewer than 10% of daily adults in the U.S.

Standalone games and browser play could reduce the friction for casual adult users who might not otherwise download the dedicated Roblox app. For creators, that potentially expands the pool of people who can discover and play their games.

By the end of 2026, players will also be able to join Roblox games in Chrome without installing software. “No app, no install, no friction,” said Nick Tornow, SVP of Engine and Creator Engineering at Roblox. “Friends can share a text or a social post anywhere on the web, and someone can click it and drop right into the game.” Additional browsers will follow.

Offline play is scheduled to arrive by mid-2027, with early access before then. Creators will be able to enable solo offline play alongside a live multiplayer mode. Games can support both modes or either one independently.

AI Lowers the Barrier to Game Development

Roblox is building AI into several parts of game creation, including coding support within Studio, 3D object generation and texture refinement, autonomous non-player characters, and a video-based environment rendering system called “Roblox Reality.”

Build, a new tab in the Roblox mobile app, generates a playable game from a text prompt. Since its alpha launch in New Zealand, creators have published approximately 9,000 games through Build. Seventy-one percent of those creators had never used Roblox Studio before, according to Roblox data through September 1, 2026.

The figures point to a potential expansion of who can become a Roblox creator. The platform’s economic research has consistently found that roughly one-third of creators have never taken a formal programming or game design course. In a 2026 survey, 83% of U.S. creators identified as individual operators rather than studio employees.

Build’s public alpha is expanding to Serbia and Singapore. Roblox is also adding desktop access and a new asset library.

Coming later this year, Scene Generator will allow creators to produce a functional scene layout from a text prompt and a reference image, with further refinement available in Studio.

Roblox Reality, first announced in April, combines video world models with the game engine’s state tracking to generate photorealistic environments. “Photorealism is very brutal in gaming,” said Anupam Singh, SVP of Engineering for Foundation AI and Infrastructure at Roblox. “But we are going to change that with Roblox Reality.”

The company demonstrated the system applying real-time lighting and weather changes to a game environment without code modifications. Roblox said most standalone video world models lose structural coherence after roughly 60 seconds. By tying the video layer to the game engine’s persistent state, the company says Roblox Reality can keep environments stable through continuous play.

Roblox also presented a 3D texture refinement model that generates high-detail output from a low-fidelity mesh across a full game environment. An autonomous NPC system will populate worlds with independently operating characters that creators can use for testing before launch.

The company also announced “Made on Roblox,” a new podcast covering the creators behind games on the platform. The first episode, about the making of breakout title “99 Nights in the Forest,” releases later this month.

Discovery Becomes Part of the Creator Business

The expansion also reaches the point where creators find an audience. Roblox reported that players spent 29 billion hours on the platform last quarter across more than 180 countries. Users spend an average of 2.6 hours a day on Roblox, while playtime has roughly doubled over the last two years. About one-third of the top 1,000 games by playtime were launched within the preceding 90 days.

The Moments tab, where players watch gameplay clips and click through to play, is now fully available in the U.S. In October, players will be able to tap avatars shown in Moments videos to purchase the items or backgrounds displayed. Build games will also be playable directly inside the tab in the coming months.

Roblox has also updated its discovery ranking to optimize for retention over a 28-day window. The system accounts for behavioral differences between younger users, who tend to favor shorter sessions, and older users who are more likely to return to deeper experiences over time.

Taken together, the changes give Roblox a larger role across the creator lifecycle. Developers can use its tools to build games, access AI to reduce the technical barrier to creation, distribute those games through more entry points, use Roblox’s discovery systems to find players, and increasingly manage the resulting income through the platform’s financial infrastructure. The strategy puts more of the creator business inside Roblox while also expanding the ways creators can take their games beyond the traditional Roblox app.
