Roblox Creators Earn Over $1B As Platform Drives Economic Growth Worldwide

Roblox creators earned more than $1 billion globally from March 2024 to March 2025, marking a 31% year-over-year increase through the platform’s Developer Exchange (DevEx) Program, according to Roblox’s annual “Economic Impact Report.” The company’s economic ecosystem of developers, creators, and game studios has generated substantial impact across both traditional tech hubs and emerging markets.

The report, conducted by economic analysis firm Nordicity, highlights how Roblox has contributed approximately 22,000 full-time job equivalents (FTEs) and $1.62 billion in GDP to the U.S. economy between 2017 and 2024. During this period, Roblox creators also contributed an estimated $416 million in tax revenue to federal and state governments.

Economic Growth Beyond Tech Centers

One of the report’s key findings reveals Roblox’s role in democratizing economic opportunities beyond established tech hubs. According to Nordicity’s analysis, 75% of creator payouts over the past eight years went to developers in states without tech-focused economies, defined as areas where tech employment is less than 10% above the national average.

“In 2024, the FTE and GDP impact of these states increased to almost 59% and 76% of the national totals, respectively, surpassing the impact of more established tech economies,” the report states, indicating that Roblox supported more employment in regions without tech-focused economies than in traditional tech centers.

In 2024 alone, Roblox generated a total GDP impact of $445 million in the United States, representing a 29% increase from 2023. The platform also contributed to 4,870 FTEs during the same year, a 6% increase from the previous year.

Creator Demographics and Skills Development

The report sheds light on the composition of Roblox’s creator community. According to a survey of 276 U.S.-based creators conducted by Nordicity:

  • 78% of respondents identified as individual developers, while 22% led studios or businesses
  • 53% reported high school as their highest level of education
  • 44% indicated they would not have created interactive experiences without Roblox
  • 33% had never taken a formal computer science, programming, or game design class

These findings underscore Roblox’s role in lowering barriers to entry for game development. Nick Tornow, Vice President of Creator Engineering at Roblox, emphasized this point in the announcement: “Roblox makes content creation free and accessible to everyone, so creators come to the platform to try something new for fun, gain technical expertise, or start their own business.”

Global Economic Impact

While the U.S. remains a key market, Roblox’s economic influence extends worldwide. The company released additional information about its impact in several high-growth markets:

  • Australia: Roblox contributed $30.7 million to Australia’s GDP from 2019 to 2024, with an 85% cumulative growth in daily active users from Q4 2020 to Q4 2024
  • Brazil: Daily active users grew 181% from Q4 2020 to Q4 2024, with Roblox contributing an estimated GDP impact of $26.4 million in 2024 alone

Platform Growth and Creator Success Initiatives

Roblox’s economic impact has been bolstered by its expanding user base, which now includes 111.8 million average daily active users worldwide, according to the report. This represents a 41% increase year-over-year as of July 2025.

To further support creator success, Roblox introduced several new tools and features over the past year:

  • Enhanced Avatar Auto-Setup and Assistant with new AI capabilities to accelerate content creation
  • Launched Price Optimization, Rewarded Video, and Regional Pricing to help creators maximize earnings
  • Continued to invest in platform infrastructure that enables developers to build experiences without advanced technical training

Creator Success Stories

The report highlights individual success stories, like Clarence Maximillian, who began developing on Roblox at age nine. Now 26, Maximillian founded a studio that created Frontlines, a game with more than 169 million visits since its 2024 launch.

In the UK, Simon Burgess from Blackpool created SharkBite, one of the platform’s biggest franchises. Burgess joined Roblox at age 12 and credits the platform’s free infrastructure with making his career possible. “For devs who are just starting out, it’s hard to pay for data storage, data hosting, game engine, server hosting,” Burgess said. “Roblox really gives you everything.”

These examples illustrate how Roblox has created pathways for creators to build businesses and careers through the platform, regardless of their geographic location or formal educational background.
