College Basketball’s Biggest Transfer Just Landed A $2 Million NIL Deal

In a seismic move for the NCAA’s name, image, and likeness (NIL) landscape, Utah State transfer Great Osobor committed to the University of Washington with a $2 million NIL valuation, per documents reviewed by ESPN. This marks the highest-known NIL valuation for any college basketball player this season.

Osobor, a 6’8” forward from England, was the top remaining recruit in the NCAA transfer portal after a standout junior season. He averaged 17.7 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game while leading Utah State to the Mountain West regular season title and an NCAA Tournament berth.

According to ESPN, the lucrative NIL package negotiated by agent George Langberg includes assured marketing opportunities for the versatile big man. Osobor chose Washington over reported offers from Louisville and Texas Tech, citing a desire “to maximize my potential” under former Utah State coach Danny Sprinkle.

“I look forward to using my platform to proudly represent my family and be a role model to my two younger sisters,” Great Osobor told ESPN. “I am more motivated than ever to show young kids that it doesn’t matter where you come from. If you put in the work and necessary sacrifice, your time will come.”

The record-setting $2 million valuation underscores the accelerating NIL arms race in college sports. Since NCAA rules changed in 2021, top returning players and transfers have secured NIL deals valued at over $1 million, with experienced frontcourt talents like Osobor in particularly high demand.

At Washington, Osobor joins a talented 2023-24 roster featuring five-star recruits Zoom Diallo and Jase Butler alongside multiple transfers, including Mekhi Mason, DJ Davis, and Franck Kepnang.
