China Penalizes Over 1,800 Livestreaming Accounts in Crackdown on Vulgar Content

China‘s internet regulator has punished more than 1,840 accounts as part of an intensified campaign against misconduct in group livestreaming entertainment, according to the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC).

As reported by Global Times, the enforcement action targets sexually suggestive performances, exploitation of minors, manipulative gift-solicitation tactics, and degrading on-air punishments tied to competitive “PK” livestreaming formats.

The CAC found that several group livestreaming accounts featured provocative gestures or used lighting and staging to create what it called an eroticized atmosphere. Those accounts faced comment restrictions and temporary suspension of livestreaming privileges.

One account was shut down entirely after minors were found participating in broadcasts, and the associated MCN agency was removed from the platform. Other accounts were penalized for using childlike speech and school uniforms to encourage viewers to send virtual gifts, resulting in temporary bans.

The regulator also cited accounts that used coded phrases such as “unlock benefits” to prompt users to transfer money, send gifts, or meet up offline, with penalties ranging from comment restrictions to permanent suspension. Accounts staging vulgar or humiliating PK punishments, or repeatedly using prompts like “help me complete the set” to drive gift-giving without substantive content, received temporary bans and traffic restrictions.

The action falls under the 2026 “Qinglang” campaign, a two-month nationwide effort the CAC announced in July targeting irregularities across account registration, livestream scene setup, streamer conduct, and minor protection in group livestreaming.
