Minecraft Developer Outlines Vision for a ‘Creator Platform’
Mojang Studios, the Microsoft-owned video game developer behind Minecraft, used the fall 2026 edition of Minecraft Live to introduce what it is calling a “creator platform,” an initiative aimed at lowering the barrier for players to build and share their own Minecraft content. The studio did not detail specific tools, features, or a timeline for the effort.
Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergenström framed the initiative as a goal to inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators by improving the tools and systems used to create, manage, and share game content. Mojang described the platform in broad terms, saying the aim is “having more Minecraft in the world, thanks to the people making more Minecraft.”

The creator platform was one of several announcements at the broadcast, which also covered the September 29 launch of “Minecraft Dungeons II,” a new in-game dimension called the “Sift” arriving on Java and Bedrock Edition next year, a Minecraft-themed attraction opening in London in 2027, and a new frozen biome coming to the game’s next content drop.
The vision statement builds on infrastructure Mojang has already put in place for creators. In June, Minecraft launched its first affiliate program, powered by impact.com, letting creators, publishers, and educators earn a starting 5% commission on eligible Marketplace products sold on the web, including add-ons, skin packs, and texture packs. That program excluded games, subscriptions, and persona items from launch commissions. Impact.com said at the time it was designed to scale into one of gaming’s largest affiliate ecosystems.
Mojang’s announcement lands against a far more detailed Creator Economy push from Roblox, a direct competitor in user-generated gaming content. At its own developer conference earlier this month, Roblox announced daily creator payouts through a new financial account called Roblox Wallet, a 42% increase to its DevEx exchange rate for creators 18 and older, standalone app distribution for individual games, and a suite of AI tools that has already helped users publish roughly 9,000 games through a text-prompt builder, according to the company. Roblox disclosed that creators earned more than $1.5 billion on its platform in 2025, up from $923 million the year before.
