Senate Democrats are planning their first creator summit, bringing together content creators, independent journalists, and new media representatives to the U.S. Capitol on February 11, per Scalable.
The full-day event will be hosted by the Senate Democrats’ Strategic Communications Committee (SCC), which is chaired by New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and has Minnesota Senator Tina Smith as vice chair. The committee was established in 1974 and assists Senate Democrats with research, policy, and communications.
“It is imperative that Democrats find ways to communicate authentically and effectively to audiences where they are, and engaging with online creators and independent media is an essential part of doing just that,” Jeff Giertz, Staff Director of the SCC, said in a statement to Scalable. “We look forward to welcoming some of the most exciting creators and independent media to the U.S. Capitol next month.”
Senate Democrats now have more than 20 million followers across their social media accounts, representing an 80% increase from 2024, according to data from the SCC. Engagement on those accounts grew by 430% between 2024 and 2025.
The summit follows previous Democratic outreach efforts to creators. The Biden administration hosted the White House’s first Creator Economy Conference in August 2024, which included approximately 100 creators and industry professionals. The administration also briefed creators on the war in Ukraine.
On the Republican side, U.S. President Trump last year invited podcasters and independent media reporters to the White House briefing room, reflecting a media strategy that included frequent podcast appearances and expanded use of platforms such as TikTok during his 2024 election campaign. Commentators and analysts have suggested his 2024 social media strategy contributed to his electoral success.
