YouTube Pilots Monthly Shorts Bonus Program Tied to Upload Consistency and Views

YouTube has begun testing a Shorts bonus program that pays eligible creators a monthly bonus for maintaining a consistent upload schedule, with additional earnings tied to viewership performance. The invite-only pilot is open to select creators in the YouTube Partner Program across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea, according to a YouTube “Creator Insider” video and Google’s help center documentation.

Creators cannot apply. Eligible participants are notified through their primary contact email or a YouTube Studio notification, and must accept the invitation and agree to the program’s specific terms and conditions by a stated deadline. Opt-in happens once, and the enrollment covers the full duration of that bonus opportunity.

The structure combines a baseline payment with a performance-based bonus. According to Google’s documentation, participants must upload a minimum number of public Shorts, specified in their individual invitation, within each calendar month to receive the promotional offer’s minimum payment. A separate monthly promotional bonus is available based on “valid, engaged Shorts views as determined by Google,” though the documentation specifies creators are “not guaranteed receipt” of that bonus. Engagement metrics go through a validation process that can take several days, and Google states the final validated numbers may differ from what creators see elsewhere, including in YouTube Analytics.

To qualify for a given month’s payout, creators must meet the stated requirements before that month ends and must still be in monetized status at the time the month closes. Both the minimum payment and any bonus are paid out during the regular monthly payment cycle alongside other YouTube earnings. Google reserves the right to change, cancel, or suspend the program immediately for legal, regulatory, or security reasons, or to prevent abuse, and can otherwise end it with 30 days’ notice.

The pilot lands after YouTube’s broader Partner Program overhaul, which raised the Shorts revenue-sharing bar: starting February 1, 2027, only creators with 10 million qualified Shorts views over a trailing 90 days will share in Shorts ad and subscription revenue, with new incentive programs intended to give smaller channels other ways to earn. That announcement specifically flagged “bonuses for YouTube Shopping, incentives for brand deals, and earnings boosts for starting and growing trends” as coming additions without detailing them. The Shorts bonus pilot now being tested appears to be among the first of those promised mechanisms to materialize.

The timing also follows a quarter in which YouTube’s underlying usage kept climbing. On parent company Alphabet’s Q1 2026 earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai said YouTube now draws over 200 million daily watch hours from U.S. living-room viewers alone, and that more than 10 million channels were publishing Shorts daily as of March. CBO Philipp Schindler noted YouTube advertising revenue grew 11% year over year, driven by direct response demand, with Brand also contributing.

For now, the bonus program remains a limited pilot. YouTube has not disclosed specific bonus amounts, how long the test will run, or when it might expand. In an official announcement, YouTube said it plans to “introduce more creator bonus opportunities in additional countries over the coming months.”
