What Does “Crop” Mean On TikTok?

TikTok is the place that gives birth to most of the social media slang words, and they are somehow always words you thought you knew the meaning of. Newest on this list is the word “crop.” This article explains what it means when someone comments “crop” on your TikTok videos and discusses what the tool does and how you can use it.

It seems as if a new wave of trends and slangs keep washing over TikTok every few months. As soon as you finally finish learning what “cringe” and “no cap” means, boom! There’s suddenly a slew of people commenting “crop” under videos, and you discover that it is yet another new slang word.

And, of course, you want to learn what it means because you don’t want to be left behind, right? Come on. Let’s find out what it means on TikTok!

What Does It Mean on TikTok?

If you have ever edited a photo or a video, you already know that “crop” is an editing tool that cuts out parts of the image.

Sometimes, when you save a TikTok to your phone or screenshot it, some crucial elements of the video get obscured by the TikTok logo, the caption, or the “like” and “comment” buttons. This can be very frustrating, especially when you really want to save that fan cam of your favorite celebrity!

So, whenever this happened, TikTokers began commenting “crop” or “we need crop” under the videos to indicate that the original poster should crop the video and reupload in such a way that makes it easier for everybody to save. Or take a screenshot of a specific moment from the video and use it as their phone background.

The “crop” comment may also mean that viewers want you to remove the text from your video and reupload it. In some rare instances, it could also indicate that they want a shorter video that gets to the point.

How To Crop a Video For TikTok?

Even though TikTok has its own in-app editing tools, it does not have the crop function, so you are going to have to use a third-party editing app. All smartphones have basic built-in editors, so you can just use them!

Open the video you want to resize on your gallery, click on edit, and select the crop option. The common aspect ratio of a TikTok video is 9:16. However, since the goal here is to crop the video so that it doesn’t take up the whole screen, you can use the 1:1 aspect ratio!

To make things easier for you, online video editing tools such as Kapwing let you resize TikTok videos easily. The tool also has several built-in aspect ratios and even allows you to add padding to your videos so that your content does not get obscured.

Using “Crop” As a Joke

Pretty much everything gets “meme-ified” on TikTok, so it is no surprise that the same thing happened to the “crop” trend. It became so popular that people just randomly started spamming the comment section of videos with the word.

Why? Some do it to poke fun at how popular the trend became, while others do it just to spam the comment section.

That’s all there is to what it means on TikTok. So, what do you think? Funny, or just annoying?
