TikTok Earnings Per Video: How TikTok Calculates Payment

There’s definitely more to Tiktok than a couple of likes on videos of you pranking your cat. If you do it right, you can actually get good money out of it一which is awesome, since you’re already having too much fun making those videos anyway. The big question is: What does a Tiktok earning per video look like? How much money are you bound to make? Well, let’s dive right into it and see if TikTok pay rate is everything it’s hyped up to be.

Does TikTok pay per video, view, or likes?

Looking for some information about Tiktok earnings per video? Check this out!

You always hear YouTubers asking viewers to like, subscribe, and hit that notification bell. Why? Because it helps optimize their earnings. Now, as a TikToker, what interaction metric should you focus on to up your TikTok game一and payment?

Unlike Facebook and YouTube, TikTok typically doesn’t compensate users for ads run in their videos, so it’s not surprising to be a digital star and receive little TikTok Payout. What Tiktokers usually have, though, are other monetization opportunities, such as brand sponsorships and merchandise. But to the delight of Tiktokers, good news from the Tiktok gods came in the Spring of 2021, when the social media brand launched the Creator Fund, which gives users the opportunity to earn money while having fun creating content. Because what better way to encourage creators to keep using the platform than providing actual payout, right?

Although TikTok is pretty much buttoned up about exactly how they calculate Creator Fund payments, they explain that there is a confluence of factors, such as the number of views, and more importantly, how authentic those views actually are.

Of course, there’s also the comments, likes, and hearts, which factor into the computation, together with your posting frequency, the number of followers you have, and the performance of TikTok specific to your region.

How does TikTok calculate payment?

No one really knows what the exact TikTok pay rate formula is, but we all know that it’s driven by more than just a few things. And while the computation may be a secret that Tiktok execs will carry to their graves, the people on the internet have come up with a few ways to crack the code, so that even if you can’t tell an algorithm from an avocado, you can estimate your TikTok pay rate.

Using TikTok money calculators is one of the easy ways to get a specific figure. They compute your receivables based on the number of hearts, posts, and engagement rate. Just input your TikTok username, and the TikTok money calculator will come up with your estimated earnings per post. Before you compute away, though, you’ll need to have the minimum number of followers to qualify you for a TikTok payout (which we’ll get to in a bit).

How much does TikTok pay per video?

In the past, TikTokers weren’t monetized for their videos. The Creator Fund has changed all that. Some creators did the math and the TikTok earning per view, which they have estimated to be between 2 and 4 cents per 1,000 views. But according to YouTube creator SuperSaf, a top U.K. tech influencer with a following of 416.3k, his 25 million TikTok views at that time only netted him about $151.82 USD, a measly $0.0000060728 per view. Hmmm…not quite what you’d expect for someone with their TikTok game on.

And it gets even more fantastic. You’d think the TikTok supernovas with hundreds of millions in views are just piling it up. But no. MrBeast, one of the most popular YouTube stars in the U.S. with 33.4M followers on TikTok, reacted to SuperSaf’s tweet by saying that he only got $14,910.92 himself for all his hard work on TikTok. While that may be a lot of money to most of us, it surely doesn’t seem that way if you’re looking at approximately a billion views. That’s $0.00001491092 for each view, a bit more than SuperSaf, probably because of Mr. Beast’s much larger following, but still amazingly little for his social media stature.

So, say we just go with SuperSaf’s more modest TikTok pay rate of $0.0000060728 per view to figure out what other TikTokers are raking in from their own videos, and we’ve come up with this:

5 ways TikTokers make more money today

Just being on the platform gives you access to multiple earning opportunities. Here’s how Tiktokers make money today:

1. Brand Collaborations

Big businesses pay TikTokers top dollar for product placements and brand endorsements. Depending on the influencers’ popularity and relevance, the rates can be anywhere from $200 to $20k. The key is getting more authentic followers because brands are aware that users can buy social media accounts and their followers. The more organic and active followers you have, the higher your credibility, and the bigger the chance brands would want to work with you.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Through affiliate marketing, TikTokers can post videos about specific products, services, and deals, get their followers to purchase them through their affiliate link, and earn commissions from every sale.

3. Merchandise and channel promotion

You can also use your TikTok videos to cross-promote your other social media channels and market your own brand of merchandise. For instance, popular TikToker Cecilia Blomdahl from Svalbard encourages her followers on the platform to check out her YouTube channel and personal line of items such as T-shirts and mugs.

4.TikTok consultancy

This area is pretty new, but like other consultancy services on social media, it can prove quite lucrative. If being the wind beneath other people’s wings is something that appeals to you, then you can be that supportive and encouraging mentor to guide TikTok newbies on their way to success. You’d be surprised just how many people are willing to pay good money for an expert who can help them increase their number of followers, boost engagement, and provide content strategy.

5. Launchpad for stardom

Many TikTokers have used the platform to launch their singing or acting careers, like Loren Gray, who first joined the social media app Musical.ly in 2015. Her fame just shot up, and she’s now a famous singer/ social media personality with 54.4m followers on TikTok.

How to join the TikTok Creator Fund

The Creator Fund, as clarified on the site, isn’t a grant nor a revenue program to earn from ads. Instead, it’s a way to reward its community of content creators. Here’s the checklist if you want in on it.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. You are based in the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, or Italy.
  2. You are 18 years old or older
  3. You have a minimum of 10,000 followers
  4. You have a minimum of 100,000 video views for the last 30 days
  5. Your account follows the TikTok Community Guidelines and Terms of Service

If you’ve ticked all of the boxes above, you can apply for the fund through your pro or creator account. After that, all you need to do is sign up, and you’re ready to roll!

Speaking of pro and creator accounts, here’s a quick tip: a pro account, which offers analytics, is free for all users. An upgrade to a creator account won’t cost you a thing either. When you have the latter, though, it’ll be easy to pinpoint questions or comments that you may want to reply to via a comment or video and your answers will link back to the questions. That’s instant content!

Wrap up

If you’re already having a great time creating videos, why not earn from it? Tiktok earning per video may not look like much in the beginning, but keep creative ideas and content coming and it just might be worth it. A word of advice: do your due diligence just like how you would handle any business undertaking!
