Influencer Marta Beker Shares Her Thoughts On Social Media, The Creator Economy, And Motherhood

Marta Beker is a content creator from Milan. Her account boasts 35 thousand loyal followers, who tune in each day for motherhood, fashion, and travel content.

Marta has been on Instagram since its inception and remembers the good old days when the platform was simply a photo-sharing app. To this day, she continues to use her Instagram as a diary, instead of scouring the web for highly curated content inspiration, she simply shares her day-to-day.

After years of success as an influencer, Marta and her husband decided to launch their own eCommerce brand Chicbliss®. After all, Marta has unparalleled experience in the social media sphere and her husband is a talented photographer.

Their online brand Chicbliss® is a one-stop shop for Italian underwear, swimwear, and other fashion items that have been carefully designed and created with the end user in mind. But, more on that later!

In this exclusive interview, Marta Beker joins me to discuss her experience with social media, the pros and cons of influencer life, and tips that she implements to balance motherhood, family life, and her creator economy commitments.

Influencer Marta Beker Shares Her Thoughts On Social Media, The Creator Economy, And Motherhood

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we get started, our readers would love to know a little bit more about your background.

“I started with social media in a fun way, initially posting about my travels and using it more as a diary. Over time, I became more passionate and started sharing about fashion, family, and my life, which resonated with my growing community. Brands began to take notice and started reaching out to collaborate. This gradual and organic growth made me realize that social media could become a business for me.”

Can you tell us about your journey as a social media influencer? How did you develop your passion for the creator industry?

“I opened my Instagram account around seven years ago, but I didn’t post regularly until about four years ago. It was during the lockdowns that I started taking it more seriously and posting consistently.”

Throughout your career, you’ve had the opportunity to work with world-famous brands such as L’oreal and Mustela. Can you share your experience of collaborating with such prominent brands and the impact it had on your influencer journey?

“While I’ve worked with multiple brands in the beauty and fashion industry, one of the most memorable collaborations was with a hotel in Tenerife. We had the opportunity to partner with the hotel for five days, and it was truly an exceptional experience. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that left a lasting impact on me.”

Can you tell us about your business Chicbliss®?

Chicbliss® is a brand that my husband and I started together. My husband had a side job but wanted to open a business, so we decided to create our own brand. It primarily focuses on jewelry, fashion, and swimwear. We used Instagram as our main platform to promote our products and also established an ambassador program with influencers from my community and new influencers. Initially, we were mostly known in Italy, but we have started to gain sales in Spain and the United Kingdom as well. We’re also planning to expand our brand promotion to TikTok, although it has been challenging to understand and navigate the platform.”

Social media has become a powerful platform for entrepreneurs. How have you leveraged social media to grow your business?

“When we started the brand, we believed that Instagram would be our main platform for growth. With my experience in partnerships with fashion and jewelry brands and my husband’s skills in photography and video editing, we felt confident in leveraging social media to promote our products. However, we recognize that social media may not be the right fit for every business and that alternative methods of brand promotion exist. It ultimately depends on the type of brand and personal decisions regarding marketing strategies.

Collaborating with my husband has been invaluable in running our business. We both bring different talents to the table, with my expertise in partnerships and his skills in photography and video editing. It allows us to combine our strengths and create a seamless blend of talents. Working together as a team has been essential in our journey, and it’s wonderful when you find the perfect blend of skills in a partnership.”

Can you share some insights into the strategies you have used to build a strong online presence through social media platforms?

“When it comes to my personal Instagram, I believe in letting my life be the inspiration for my content. Initially, my Instagram focused on travel and a carefree lifestyle, but with the onset of the pandemic, it shifted towards family and home-related content. I try to create original and authentic posts, not just showcasing sponsored products but adding a personal touch that’s unique to me.

While I do follow certain trends, I make sure to incorporate my own perspective to make it original. If I notice that certain types of posts receive more engagement and shares, I take note and try to create more content in that niche or format. Overall, I prioritize authenticity and being true to myself, recognizing that people follow me because of the connection they feel with me as a creator.”

How do you use social media to engage with your audience and foster a sense of community among your followers?

“For me, it’s important to connect with individuals who share similar interests or experiences. I actively engage with people who resonate with my content, whether it’s through leaving comments or sending messages. I aim to create genuine personal interactions with my audience, building connections based on shared interests, such as travel or family life.

It’s about establishing real connections and making people feel seen and valued.”

How do you manage your social media accounts while maintaining a healthy work-life balance and focusing on other aspects of your business?

“Finding that balance can be challenging, especially with motherhood and other aspects of my life. There were times, particularly during my difficult first trimester, when I couldn’t post regularly due to feeling sick and a lack of inspiration. But, normally I find it quite easy to stick to a routine of posting two or three times a week. It has become second nature to me after nearly four years of consistently posting.

Also, the motivation and support from my followers, who enjoy my content and reach out when I don’t post, encourage me to continue.

I find that being organized and scheduling are key to managing social media amidst other responsibilities. By planning a content calendar and dedicating specific time for photo shoots, I can create content in advance and have a buffer for months. This approach helps maintain a healthy work-life balance and ensures a consistent presence on social media.”

Do you have any tips or advice for aspiring creators looking to establish their presence on social media?

“My advice to content creators starting their social media journey is to begin slowly and naturally. It’s important to have a genuine passion for the content you’re sharing. Focus on creating content you and your audience enjoy, rather than aiming for a higher follower count, partnerships, or financial gain. Building a successful presence on social media requires authenticity and a connection with your audience.

Connect with others in your niche, exchange ideas, and draw inspiration from other creators. I always try to remind myself that social media is not about direct competition but rather finding your own lane and being inspired by others to create your unique content. Embrace the journey, stay true to yourself, and cultivate a genuine passion for what you’re doing.”

Social media platforms are continuously evolving. How do you stay up-to-date with the latest trends and features to maximize your online presence?

“When I first started, Instagram was all about sharing photos, but now there’s a shift towards videos and reels. Adapting to these new trends was initially difficult for me as I still have a preference for photos, but I understand the importance of embracing these changes to stay relevant.

Balancing different types of content, such as photography, carousels, and reels, is crucial to maintaining a good balance and reaching a wider audience. While it can be a struggle to keep up with the trends, I recognize the importance of adapting to new features and formats to maximize my reach and engagement.”

Can you share a success story where social media played a significant role in growing your business or connecting with clients?

“On a personal level, social media has become like a diary for me. It allows me to share my life and experiences in a way that makes me feel better. Through social media, I’ve also had the opportunity to connect with numerous people who have become friends. We share personal stories, support one another, and genuinely care about each other. In times of difficulty or when facing challenges with Instagram, I’ve received tremendous support from this community. Building these connections and being part of meaningful experiences have been incredibly rewarding.

And from a business standpoint, social media has provided me with the freedom to pursue my passion as a career and create a community around it, which I class as a significant success in itself.”

How do you envision the future of your business and the impact you hope to make within your community and beyond?

“I envision the future of my business as a continuation of growth and positive experiences. As long as Instagram makes me happy and I have the inspiration to post, I will continue to use the platform as an outlet. I hope to see my business grow and reach new heights.”

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers, any upcoming projects, words of wisdom, or closing statements?

“Prior to my pregnancy, I had plans to develop a family travel profile, as well as start a YouTube channel. However, given my pregnancy and the challenges I faced during the first trimester, my current focus is on my family and ensuring a healthy pregnancy. As of now, I don’t have any specific upcoming projects to share, but I’m hopeful for the future.

I encourage readers to stay true to themselves, find passion in what they do, and build genuine connections within their communities. Remember that social media should be a platform for self-expression and connecting with others. Prioritizing personal well-being and family is essential, and plans can always be adjusted and reimagined as life unfolds.”
