Today, we will be comparing two of these platforms, Fiverr and Legiit.

Freelancing is one of the most popular ways to work right now. From the flexible hours, the ability to work from the comfort of your home, and the chance to work with a range of amazing companies, it’s no wonder why more and more people are choosing to freelance.

Many employers are choosing to hire freelancers instead of an in-house staff as it can oftentimes cut costs and lead to more profitable work.

Back in the day, it could be difficult to connect freelancers to those looking to purchase services without a pre-established connection. But now, there are many platforms that are designed to connect freelancers and clients. 

Fiverr

What is Fiverr?

Fiverr is an online freelance marketplace founded in 2010 in Israel. The original concept for the site was for all services to start at $5, hence the namesake. Now, as the company has grown and the amount of freelancers on the site have increased, many services can cost upwards of hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Fiverr is now a billion dollar global company and by far the most popular freelance service. The highest paying jobs on the site are proofreading, copywriting, resume writing, social media management, and website designing. 

How does Fiverr work for freelancers?

Fiverr is completely free to join and use, unlike many freelance sites. Once you sign up, you can start posting gigs.

Gigs are what Fiverr calls their service advertisements – these posts are how clients will find and order your work.

When creating your gig posting, you want to be sure to include important information such as timelines, your rate, testimonials from previous customers, and your experience. Why should this person hire you?

If you can, include a video introducing yourself and your craft, as well as finished products of your service.

This seller is also a top rated seller. This is part of Fiverr’s ranking system, which is very important for sellers.

Fiverr’s ranking system has four levels. You automatically start as a New Seller, and can move up to Level 1, Level 2, and Top Rated Seller. The higher your ranking, the more likely it is that clients will purchase your services. You also unlock new features such as the ability to post more gigs and withdraw your funds quicker.

In order to make it to Level 1, you have to –

• Be an active seller for at least 60 days
• Complete at least 10 orders
• Earn $400 or more
• Maintain a 4.7-star rating over 60 days
• Deliver a 90% response rate score over 60 days
• Score a 90% order completion rate over 60 day
• Achieve a 90% on-time delivery score over 60 days
• Receive no warnings over 30 days

You can also check out your progress on your seller dashboard. This is also where you can handle all your orders, payments, and communication with clients, as well as see analytics such as your total earnings and average selling price.

Note – it’s important to remember that Fiverr takes a 20% cut from all your sales, regardless of your ranking. That means you will come home with 80% of your total profits.

How does Fiverr work for clients?

You can use the same account for being a client or a freelancer, and switch between the two easily.

Instead of posting gigs, simply scroll through the vast amount of categories Fiverr has to offer to find the perfect freelancer for your project.

Remember, most freelancers want you to message them first before you order. This is so you can confirm details such as timelines, payment, and any other details about your project.

Once you confirm your order, you will be charged, but the freelancer won’t get the payment until the order has been completed and you are satisfied with the result. Remember to only communicate and offer payment through Fiverr so you can be protected incase of any issues.

Fiverr charges a 5.5% fee for all orders, and an extra $2 charge if the order is under $50.

Legiit

What is Legiit?

Legiit is a freelance marketplace that markets itself specifically as their services being worth more than $5 – a subtle dig at Fiverr, who is known for many of their services starting at $5. The site was founded in 2018 and has since grown to one of the top Fiverr alternatives.

Legiit specializes in services like SEO, programming, AI, and internet marketing.

How does Legiit work for sellers?

Once you sign up, you can start crafting your profile. This is where you will explain the types of services you can provide, and even include an introductory video. This is where you can post your services and where clients can find your service and order from you.

Here is an example of a post from a highly rated seller. Unlike Fiverr, which favors short and sweet gig postings, sellers on Legiit usually give a lot of information about the type of service they provide. Below is just a small fraction from the gig posting

Legiit also works as a social network, like other job search platforms such as LinkedIn. You can post and follow other creators, as well as potential clients, and comment and interact with their content.

You can also start looking for jobs on the job board. Below is an example of some projects you might find.

If clients are coming to you through your service page, you can apply to these project openings with a proposal. That is where you can say how much your rate is, what timeline you can work on, and show examples of the type of work you produce.

Note – Legiit takes a 15% fee from the total of all your profits. 

How does Legiit work for buyers?

You can use the same profile as a seller, which is great if you have freelance services you need to purchase as well as provide.

You can either look through profiles of sellers and see if anyone fits the type of work you’re looking for, or you can post a project and have freelancers reply directly to the post.

There is no fee for clients purchasing services on Legiit, which makes it very cost effective for employers looking to hire freelancers.

Which freelance platform is best?

Fiverr has a diverse field of services, which means you can find nearly anything on the site that you could need. Legiit has an SEO focus, which is great if you have SEO content you need to create, but it’s important to remember many of these services you are purchasing are just a fraction of the SEO puzzle – i.e, just because a service is promising you a blogspot, that doesn’t mean your post will be ranked highly in searches. Legiit might be the perfect platform for SEO content, for both freelancers and those looking to purchase services, especially since the competition isn’t as high on a site like Fiverr. But for services such as website building or resume writing, Fiverr may be the way to go.
