Three companies spanning technology, advertising and entertainment production are launching what they call the first upfront event dedicated to microdramas and the broader vertical entertainment business. COL Group, Virtue Asia and V47 Entertainment unveiled Inside Microdramas, set for Singapore on October 27.
As reported by Variety, the initiative is expected to draw senior executives from entertainment, advertising, tech, platforms and consumer brands. Organizers are drawing a distinction between microdrama, which they define as a specific short-form, serialized storytelling format, and vertical entertainment, a broader category spanning scripted series, reality and factual programming, creator-driven content, interactive narratives, commerce tie-ins and branded IP shaped for mobile viewing.
“Microdramas are not the entire story. They are the first signal of a much bigger shift in how entertainment is created, distributed, funded and consumed,” said Timothy Oh, General Manager, International, at COL Group. “Inside Microdramas is designed to move the conversation beyond the format itself and explore the wider vertical entertainment economy emerging around it. It will also give brands the opportunity to participate much earlier, not simply as advertisers, but as partners in building the next generation of entertainment IP.”
David Webster, Chair of V47 Entertainment, said the event is built to bring brands into projects at the development stage rather than after the fact. “The next evolution of branded entertainment will not come from placing brands into stories after they have already been developed,” he said. “It will come from bringing brands, creators and producers together at the very beginning.”
The program, organized around the theme “Inside the Business, Culture and Future of Entertainment’s Fastest-Growing Format,” will mix panel discussions, brand viewpoints and dedicated one-on-one partnership meetings. COL Group will open with a session on why microdramas are pushing studios, platforms and creators toward new production and distribution models. Virtue Asia will present on brands moving from advertising around culture to creating original stories and characters. V47 Entertainment will host a panel examining new funding and distribution economics for brands entering entertainment production.
The centerpiece, “First Look: The 2027 Slate,” will preview roughly 10 creator-led IP and vertical entertainment concepts from COL Group and V47 Entertainment to prospective brand partners, followed by “Greenlight Sessions” covering commissions, financing, distribution and co-development. Additional details on venue, speakers and slate content are expected in the coming weeks.
The event arrives as major entertainment brands test the format directly rather than through the established microdrama apps. Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” announced its first vertical series, a political spoof titled “The Daily Show Presents: Two Billionaires Fight to Dominate the Country… And My Heart!,” in July. BuzzFeed Studios and muVpix have committed to producing more than 100 microdrama titles over two years, and producers Alon Shtruzman and Scott Einbinder launched New Short Media around partnerships with established Hollywood talent. The U.S. microdrama industry generated an estimated $1.3 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach roughly $1.5 billion in 2026.
COL Group builds digital entertainment and technology products, including the vertical drama app FlareFlow. Virtue Asia is a strategic and creative agency whose clients include Disney, Google, Spotify, Toyota, Diageo and Shiseido. V47 Entertainment was formed by Virtue Asia and Goldfinch International, the international growth arm of the UK’s Goldfinch Group, which has backed more than 200 film and TV projects.
