Content Strategist
YAP MEDIA NYC is hiring a full-time, Austin-based Short-form Content Strategist to lead short-form, social-first content strategy and execution for Hala Taha’s content ecosystem, including Young and Profiting Podcast, Hala’s personal brand, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, social video content, studio production, and related brand content.
This is not a traditional podcast producer role or a purely administrative social media role. This role is for someone who understands how to turn long-form conversations, founder ideas, cultural moments, and brand priorities into high-performing short-form video, platform-native social content, and clear creative direction for editors and production teams.
The right person will help scale Young and Profiting and Hala’s personal brand by making short-form and social content a growth engine, not an afterthought. They will know how to identify viral moments, shape hooks, direct video edits, guide on-camera capture, write strong copy, and package content for attention, retention, saves, shares, and brand credibility.
In this role, you will work directly with Hala Taha, the Creative Director, and production leadership to raise the quality, speed, and strategic clarity of Hala’s social and short-form content. You will sit at the intersection of content strategy, social media, short-form video, creative direction, production, writing, editing judgment, and executive communication.
You will be responsible for making sure Hala’s social content is not just posted on time, but built with a clear hook, a strong audience promise, a compelling visual direction, and a growth strategy behind every asset. This person must be creative enough to know what will capture attention, strategic enough to understand brand positioning and platform behavior, and operational enough to make sure the work actually gets done at a high standard.
Responsibilities
Short-Form & Social Creative Strategy
- Own the short-form and social-first content strategy for Hala’s brands across Instagram, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, trailers, podcast clips, talking-head videos, b-roll, and related social assets.
- Identify the strongest short-form moments from every episode, interview, recording, live conversation, and brand moment, prioritizing clips with strong hooks, emotional pull, practical value, controversy, clarity, and viral potential.
- Think beyond “what is this clip about?” and identify the sharpest audience-facing promise: why someone should stop scrolling, watch, save, share, comment, or follow.
- Develop platform-native creative angles for each piece of content so clips do not feel like generic podcast cutdowns.
- Help the team test and improve short-form formats across Instagram, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn.
- Test and identify viral short-form formats beyond podcast clips to grow brand awareness and reach new audiences.
- Make sure short-form content supports both audience growth and the larger Hala/YAP brand strategy.
Video Shooting, Capture & Edit Direction
- Capture or direct b-roll, talking-head videos, behind-the-scenes content, studio moments, trend-driven videos, and other social-first assets with Hala when needed.
- Identify trending topics, timely moments, and content opportunities that Hala can respond to in a way that feels smart, brand-safe, and platform-native.
- Give clear direction to video editors on what each clip should accomplish, where the hook is, what the viewer should feel, what pacing is needed, and how the edit should land.
- Review short-form edits with a sharp eye for hook strength, retention, captions, pacing, visual rhythm, audio, framing, brand fit, and platform performance.
- Spot opportunities to improve a clip before it publishes, including stronger openings, tighter cuts, better captions, clearer CTAs, more emotional payoff, or stronger visual packaging.
- Understand video shooting and editing well enough to direct creative teams clearly, even when not personally editing every asset.
Social Media Management & Platform Growth
- Help manage Hala’s social content calendar so priority assets are planned, assigned, reviewed, published, and learned from consistently.
- Create and oversee captions, post copy, platform descriptions, hooks, titles, thumbnail text, CTAs, and supporting copy tied to Hala’s social and short-form content.
- Work with Social, YouTube, Production, Sponsorship, and Leadership teams to align social packaging with audience data and growth goals.
- Review performance insights and turn them into better creative decisions for future clips, formats, topics, hooks, posts, titles, and campaigns.
- Track what is working across Hala’s social channels and identify repeatable patterns the team can scale.
Studio, Production & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support in-person recordings in Austin when needed, including content capture, studio readiness, recording flow, and on-site production quality.
- Attend interviews or recordings when needed to monitor content opportunities, flag strong short-form moments, and support scripting intros, outros, or social follow-ups.
- Spot audio, video, lighting, framing, and production issues quickly and coordinate fixes before they affect final content.
- Work closely with Hala, the Creative Director, production, video, social, YouTube, thumbnail, sponsorship, guest outreach, and leadership teams to keep Hala’s content engine moving.
Results
- Within the first 30 days, Hala’s short-form and social content has clearer hooks, stronger clip selection, tighter creative briefs, and more consistent direction for editors and social team members.
- Within the first 60 days, social-first content is being planned earlier in the production process, not treated as an afterthought after long-form episodes are complete.
- Within the first 90 days, Hala’s Instagram, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, trailers, and related social assets have stronger platform-native packaging, sharper captions, and clearer audience promises.
- Within the first 90 days, the team has a stronger system for identifying, briefing, reviewing, publishing, and learning from short-form content.
- Within the first 120 days, the role helps unlock growth across reach, engagement, saves, shares, subscribers, brand visibility, and overall content quality.
- Hala’s brand voice is consistent, premium, social-first, and growth-oriented across short-form video, social posts, podcast clips, YouTube, sponsors, and personal-brand content.
- The team has fewer vague handoffs, stronger edit direction, clearer feedback loops, and a higher standard for final social and short-form output.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in social media strategy, short-form video strategy, content strategy, video production, creative direction, social media management, or a closely related media role.
- Proven ability to identify strong short-form moments, shape hooks, direct edits, write social copy, and build platform-native content for growth.
- Strong understanding of Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube packaging, captions, retention, short-form formats, and platform-specific content strategy.
- Experience directing or producing video content, including giving clear feedback on pacing, framing, captions, hooks, structure, visual quality, and final edit decisions.
- Comfortable capturing or directing b-roll, talking-head videos, behind-the-scenes content, studio moments, and social-first video assets.
- Excellent writing and scripting skills, especially for captions, hooks, talking-head scripts, trailer copy, clip briefs, sponsor stories, and founder-led content.
- Strong editorial judgment and a sharp eye for story, structure, hooks, audience promise, social relevance, and content quality.
- Highly organized and able to manage many moving pieces across platforms, episodes, formats, deadlines, teams, and stakeholders.
- Comfortable giving clear creative direction to editors, producers, designers, social teams, and cross-functional partners.
- Strong executive communication skills and excellent written judgment in Slack, email, documents, Asana, and meetings.
- Austin-based and available to work on site several days per week for studio production, content capture, creative working sessions, and close collaboration with Hala.
