Creator Hub ‘The Lighthouse’ Opens In Historic Brooklyn Pencil Factory

The Lighthouse, part of Whalar Group, has unveiled its East Coast Creator campus in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. The facility, housed in the historic 1872 Pencil Factory at 58 Kent Street, serves as a dedicated space for content creators, artists, and creative professionals to collaborate and produce work.

“The Lighthouse Brooklyn embodies everything this city represents: artistry, creativity, reinvention, and a real sense of collective spirit,” Jon Goss, CEO of The Lighthouse, said in a statement. “It’s more than a space. It’s a living, breathing ecosystem where Creators can explore new ideas, connect with each other, and shape the next wave of culture.”

The Brooklyn campus features modern production studios, collaboration and event spaces, The Lighthouse Theater, and a 6,000-square-foot waterfront rooftop terrace overlooking the East River. Interior design studio Warkentin Associates, which also designed The Lighthouse Venice location, led the adaptive reuse project.

Specialized facilities include podcast studios, a library/salon, screening room, bar and coffee shop, test kitchens, sound stages, photography studios, music studio, edit bays, and a live broadcasting desk. The design balances Bauhaus architectural sensibility with analog tactility, according to company materials.

Membership and Creator Council

The Lighthouse operates through a curated membership model. Members are selected through referrals by The Lighthouse’s Creator Council, co-chaired by Colin and Samir, and an open application process vetted by the council.

Current council members include Brett Conti, Dave Bench, Gabriel DeSanti, Ari Elkins, Salt Hank, Tejas Hullur, Eddie Huang, Eni Popoola, Kareem Rahma, Evan Shapiro, Pooja Tripathi, Kelly Wakasa, and Odette Williams.

“The Creator Economy is the planet’s cultural center of gravity. Today’s creators aren’t just artists; they’re studios,” said council member Evan Shapiro. “The Lighthouse is the studio system for creators.”

Opening Festival and Expansion

A two-day Opening Festival on November 5-6 celebrated the launch of the Brooklyn campus with talks, performances, and Creator-led programming. Featured participants included Danny Brown, David Droga, Sir John Hegarty, Ana Gasteyer, Amber Tamblyn, Mary Harron, Stretch Armstrong, and Jesse David Fox.

The Brooklyn location is the second Lighthouse campus, following the Venice, California facility housed in a renovated 1937 post office. The 24,000-square-foot Venice location has capacity for 650 members, with annual membership fees starting at approximately $5,000. A third campus in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) is planned for 2026.

This Brooklyn opening follows Fox Advertising’s investment in The Lighthouse, announced in June at Cannes Lions. The partnership aims to develop creator-led franchises across Fox’s content offerings and coincides with Fox’s new IP development initiative.

Partner organizations for the Brooklyn campus include Fox Entertainment/Tubi, iHeartMedia, Samsung, Shopify, and Tribeca Festival.
