Blink49 Studios Launches Creator Studios Division, Names Mickey Meyer as President
Toronto-based independent TV studio Blink49 Studios is launching a global “Creator Studios” division and has appointed Mickey Meyer as President, per Variety.
The division will focus on partnering with creators to develop scalable IP across scripted, unscripted, and digital-first formats, while supporting development, financing, production, and global distribution.
Meyer brings more than two decades of experience across digital media, independent production, and the Creator Economy. He previously served at Maker Studios, where he helped build the YouTube-native content network, and later as President of Group Nine Studios.
He also co-founded the creator-driven investment fund Altitude, the comedy studio Jash, and independent production company The Unreasonable alongside Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe. At Blink49, Meyer will report to Tara Long, President of Global Unscripted Television, and will be based in Los Angeles.
“The most compelling creative voices of this era aren’t waiting to be discovered; they’ve already built the audiences,” Meyer said in a statement. “What’s been missing is the institutional infrastructure to match that ambition: the development, the craft, the financing, and the production muscle to turn a moment into something that endures.”
Microdrama Expansion
The Creator Studios announcement follows a separate expansion move reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Blink49 hired Tieren Hawkins as VP of Vertical Content to build out a microdrama slate. Hawkins has produced content for platforms including ReelShort, Dramawave, and ShortMax, with credits including “Forbidden Bonds,” which drew over 150 million views at premiere.
Hawkins will develop original ultrashort dramas using Blink49’s relationships with brand marketers and digital platforms, producing across Canadian hubs where local talent and film tax credits are available.
“Microdramas are experiencing significant global momentum, and over the past few years I’ve been focused on understanding what makes the format work at scale,” Hawkins said in a statement.
Blink49 Studios was founded in 2021 by global TV veteran John Morayniss, with backing from Fifth Season and Bell Media. The company is headquartered in Toronto with offices in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and New York.
